I found a huge patch of milkweed out in Colorado! When I first drove by, I thought it was Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca), so I pulled over to get a closer look. After researching what's native here, it appears to be Showy Milkweed (Asclepias speciosa). I had never seen it before, so I wanted to share.

These pictures popped up in my photo memories today! They were taken nine years ago at my parent's house. Cecropia moths commonly use birch, cherry, and maple trees as host plants, which my parents have quite a few of. By planting native plants, beautiful insects like this are likely to show up on your property. I wish I could have seen it as a caterpillar!

It's that time of year again! This Tulip Poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera) was rescued from land that was being developed around two decades ago. It's now about 25 years old and blooms during the last two weeks of May every year. One of my favorite trees in the yard!
