Hi! I'm a novice gardener trying to only use native plants at my new house. I have a retaining wall of cinder blocks and would like to plant something native beside it that will spill over and down to cover the wall. I'm in the central Bluegrass (Fayette Co). The spot gets medium sun. I'd be happy with anything green, it doesn't have to be flowering.
I've already tried searching for something like that, but I'm not sure what plants will trail and grow "down"
Thanks!
Hello! One plant that comes to mind is moss phlox (Phlox subulata), also known as creeping phlox. It has attractive pink-purple blooms in the spring and will attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. It might not completely cover your retaining wall, but it does have a natural cascading growth habit and will spill over the edge of the wall. It is native to the Bluegrass region.
